Catching Bait Hidden in Sand like a Pro

Catching Bait Hidden in Sand like a Pro

Hundreds of people walk the beaches of South Florida each day but how many actually know what lives in the sand that is beneath their feet?
Sand Fleas are arguably the best surf fishing bait but do you know how to catch them on your beach and how to store them properly for later use?
No problem if you don’t because I explain everything in this short video. If you love to catch Pompano, like I have done in a few of my previous videos, Sand Fleas are a must! Follow along as I uncover these little burrowing bait fish from the surf and bring them home to package them for use on another day of fishing.

These aren’t sand fleas. They’re mole crabs. Lots of people call these guys sand fleas but the actual fleas are tiny shrimp looking things that come out by the thousands at night and eat beach wrack. They vary in size from ant to cricket and they use their tails to jump across the beach toward food. When day comes they burrow about a foot under the sand just above high tide line

  12. Jose Perrier on November 26, 2021 at 10:05 pm

This video gives sand fleas more credit than they deserve. You walk on them all the time while playing on the beach. You literally just scoop them up where you see the “V’s” in the sand.

  13. michael castillo on November 26, 2021 at 10:05 pm

"I promise no sand fleas were harmed" as he pours boiling hot water into the bucket full of live sand fleas 😂😂😂

I’ve fried them and eaten them once. Pretty crunchy.. not as tasty as shrimps of course. But definitely edible.

  29. FatBoi_69 on November 26, 2021 at 10:27 pm

Sandflees are good bait but everytime I use them they get nibbled off

  30. Landen Murray on November 26, 2021 at 10:28 pm

Was at the beach today and was digging a couple feet away from the water just digging a random hole and next thing I knew I couldn’t stop finding them so I started using them as bait

People have become so desperate for content in social media, they take a video that should have been 2 minutes and make it 11. You spent almost 4 minutes talking. Then spent another 4 minutes scooping the damn things with your hands when you had a rake. You could have just used the rake and been done in 2 minutes

I sorry not trying to sound know it all. BUT THAT’S A SAND FIDDLER!! Sand fleas bite and cause encephalitis join the Marine corps and spend the summer at camp lejeune then you’ll know what a sand flea is it. Damn sure ain’t that little critter underneath the sand. LOL Just saying!

  38. chefjimmie1 on November 26, 2021 at 10:40 pm

I thought sand fleas were little flying insects that bite and carry Leishmaniasis. I have never in my 58 years known of these little "mole crabs" called sand fleas even though I’ve lived by the beach most of my adult life.
